Holistic medicine is an ancient form of healing characterized by the treatment of the whole person — body, mind, spirit and emotions — in the quest for optimal health and wellness.

This may include diet, exercise, natural healthcare that fall outside of pharmaceutical or surgical treatments.  For example, many botanical and plant-derived herbal concentrates are rich in a variety of compounds and have been used since the early days of humankind and are still use throughout the world for health promotion and treatment of diseases.  Another form of healing involves some form of energy, including electromagnetic, thermal or spiritual/vibrational healing practice called “Reiki,” which is usually facilitated by light, non manipulative touch to the affected area of the body.

Louise Lynn Hay authored a self-help book in 1984 “You Can Heal Your Life”.   Hay advocates a holistic approach to nurture our entire being through nutrition, exercise, positive thinking and mental attitude, self-empowerment, affirmations, prayers, meditations, unconditional love. She explains how to listen to what our body is telling us through its discomforts. Self-love is the key to self-healing.
